Putney High Street to be pedestrianised.

What a shock. Wandsworth council have unveiled plans to shut off PHS to all motor traffic between Upper and Lower Richmond roads. The measures were approved late last night and will come into force shortly after Easter. A spokesperson said that ‘drastic situations require drastic solutions’. The high street has been clogged for a number of years and no solution has been found to ease the situation. ‘ we are aware that some people might find this somewhat irritating, but we are confident that cyclists, pedestrians and many food outlets will be very happy’. Traffic will be re-routed down the side streets.

That’s what I thought, but a leaked report by a ‘top city firm of traffic consultants’ suggests that today would be a perfect day to release the plan, ‘no one will believe it. ‘ It’s technically known as ‘a double-bluff’.Popular mayor, Sadiq Khan, has welcomed the changes;‘It’s high time Putney had space for regular demonstrations and hate-marches, as well as the occasional mass prayer gatherings’.

Exactly, that’s what I thought. Apparently someone raised these points last night but the Council said, ‘we couldn’t care less what the whiners and nay-sayers think, it’s time to get bold and radical’. I don’t know, it seems like a slightly risky move to me, but let’s see, it should be implemented before the end of April.

Is this April Fool. Because you cannot direct traffic down the back streets because there are barriers. Also not very convenient for deliveries to shops in the High Street, we won't be able to drive out of our road, neither will the other roads that go into the High Street.
