Astrofest, Kensington, February, 2026: Professor Lucie Green, interviewing Dr Gary Hunt, the only British scientist to work on JPL's imaging team for NASA's Voyager missions: https://flic.kr/p/2rXToymExcellent that he gave credit to the engineers, the real "heroes", for getting the missions off he ground in 1977 - when there was a "drop dead" window to launch owing to the short period of planetary alignments - and keeping them going now as they make new discoveries leaving the solar system. Apparently a recently retired engineer had to be dragged back into NASA about 18 months ago to write some assembler code to resolve an issue - no one currently at JPL or NASA knew assembler! I suppose it was quicker than someone learning it? But the current NASA team does a great job of remotely supporting and fixing the two Voyager spacecraft, given a latency time of around two days!Investing in science made America great!
