Off Road Vehicles.

Hi neighbours,Any thoughts on the Mayor's review regarding restricting the increased prevalence of oversized vehicles?I would welcome it myself.

Seems a sensible proposal. Large, heavier vehicles cause more road damage age so should pay more.

For once, I agree with him!  Ugly great big monstrosities that all look the same.  However I don’t suppose he’ll stop swanning around in his own armour-plated huge monstrosity, flanked by his security team in their huge ugly monstrosities …

These vehicles are dangerous because of restricted visibility, they are too big for many of our roads and parking spaces, and  because they are so much heavier than normal cars, they cause a great deal of damage to road surfaces.  As a consequence they should be heavily taxed at sale, likewise in running costs for the much greater emissions they produce and incur prohibitive levels of parking costs. Predictably, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has bleated that such measures could “unfairly penalise” some drivers, saying that “Singling out specific cars based on size restricts consumer choice and would unfairly penalise the many drivers who require a larger vehicle for essential mobility.” I don't think that two thirds of drivers require such cars (over 60% of new regustrations in the UK are for them) so this claim is patently silly.
Thank goodness that TfL are looking at trying to control these monstrous fashion accessories.
