What's this 15mins driving.

Why don't they build the Berlin Wall keep us all in and let the prisoners out. This won't cut congestion, the Government has lost the plot they just want to control people. How can you just drive for 15 mins it takes 20 mins to get back from Richmond, how can they work out 15 mins when you can only drive 20 mph. Or traffic jams.

Their trying to turn it into a Soviet state, you will only be able to go out of your area 100 times a year, your car will be tracked by cameras.If you need to travel more you will have to buy permits. You can only fly now and again. Only buy 3 items of clothes a year. Only allowed to eat certain food.Is that why they are trying to put farmers out of business. We will be like prisoners.

Wow Jonathan that comment is rude.  Everyone will read this and apply it to their own areas to try and make sense of it.  We are all fully aware both you and Richard favour bikes over cars but the current PHS chaos nothing is within 15 minutes even walking unless you live very near PHS.

The original idea of the 15 minute city was having everyday needs within 15 minutes of  walking or cycling. Nothing to do with driving; in fact, for most things driving wouldn't be be necessary. Obviously, exceptions for those who can't walk. Nothing about not going on holiday or visiting relatives which, for most,  aren't everyday events."As the name suggests, a 15-minute city is an urban planning model where everything a resident needs in their daily life can be accessed within a 15-minute walk or bike ride. Rather than making an entire city traversable in 15-minutes, it instead means designing local areas to have everything civilians need within this distance."

The whole 15 minute cities topic is actually irrelevant to Putney, or Wandsworth, but I thought it might be helpful to try and look at the topic a little more rationally.

A report from 2023 is not relevant in 2026.  The congestion in Putney now is horrendous and on particularly bad days it could take longer than 15 minutes to drive from one end of PHS to the other end.

Worth first reading this BBC piece from October 2023.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-66990302A recent rather hysterical article in the Telegraph refers to the concept as "Stalinist" which is plain nonsense!  Other papers have picked up the story and reported in similar terms.Oxford council, which has a particular problem given its constrained geography, has introduced LTNs, provoking some controversy, and a ZEZ (zero emission zone).  Oxford is home to many thousands of cyclists and wants to make its roads more pedestrian and cyclist friendly - thus potentially restricting car use.  But there are exemptions for blue badge holders and local residents.  I somehow doubt this adds up to Stalinism!

Just googled, how stupid. They think people can get to work, shopping, hospitals,dentists, all on public transport or cycling or walking, within 15 mins, so you can not visit relations, go on holiday, their telling you not to use your vehicle.
