Nectar card scam

My partner, Jean, went to Sainsbury Local this morning and when he went to pay the guy next to him said he'd left his Nectar card at home so could he use Jean's card and Jean would get the points. Guess what, the guy stole all Jean's Nectar points (£2.50!) The worst thing was that it's the second time Jean has fallen for this scam 🥴 can you imagine how much this guy steals if he shops a lot!Merry Xmas all!

Another variation on the Nectar scam is that the scammer says they don’t have their Nectar card on them, so could they borrow yours to get the Nectar discounts.  
Google Nectar card scam. Why don’t Sainsburys put up notices at the checkouts about this?

Frankly Barbara I am amazed that you think it's ok for anyone to scam other people even for such a small sum. I only posted the thread so that other people aren't caught out. I doubt very much that the scammer was any hungrier than Jean was!

Well if it was only £2.50 I wouldn't worry that much, hope it went to somebody who was hungry. In the future don't give your card to anybody simple as that.

The card wasn't switched Gerry. It was at a self service point.

Sorry Barbara I am not wrong. From having 250 points when Jean checked his bill it was at zero points. The guy had used Jean's points to reduce the cost of his own bill.

If he knows the time and date just ring nectar. Mother half never got his card back and it was used, he might have left on the till, but that was £20 or more. Nectar still refunded him they have your name etc. Also sent him another card.

I imagine they switch cards, ie take your card with points and give you back a different card with no points. You’d have to scan the card yourself and not hand it over to anyone, if you wanted to help. I imagine that would stop any possible scams. I have also been asked to scan my Tesco card by an old boy who said he didn’t have his, unfortunately I couldn’t as I don’t have a Tesco card. I do have a Nectar card, but it isn’t registered so I don’t get any points but I do get the reductions.

Sorry Lucille, but you might be wrong, I have a friend on the till at richmond Sainsbury's a couple of times I have handed it to my friend so a lady who didn't have a card could get her food cheaper. They are not taking your points, you get more points as if you had paid for the shopping. You only have to ring nectar, all the transactions are registered. If your husband got his card back, should not be a problem. They wouldn't be able to pay for their food, if your husband was standing there.
