Anybody else had a problem with their letters. I sent 2 cards to my son for him and my granddaughters Birthday, I know it was Sweden but he never got them and they were sent 2 weeks ago. He usually gets them quickly.  Also I had a statement that had been opened and then put in a plastic envelope with a phone number apologizing for it having been opened.  Just wondered are they going down hill again. Or some shifty postmen.

Michael. You really do prolong things, you can Google it. It says the postmen sort it into areas. My letter could have gone to the wrong property. All I asked originally, did anybody else have a problem with their post.

Interesting. That's not how Royal Mail described and a showed the process of mail being handled during a visit to a sorting office (albeit not in London) by my colleagues and me. Items, such as your statement, are usually printed, often by specialist companies, in a sequence that pre-sorts them by postal area to reduce postal costs, although that wouldn't stop items being damaged at some point in transit, and sometimes post gets destroyed if there's a major incident such as flooding.

The post collected from Post Boxes and Post Offices is taken to the sorting office and manually sorted into areas. Then distributed to the areas across the country or abroad.

Most of the sorting is done by machines these day except (if I remember correctly) the incoming mail to an area (eg incoming to Putney) when I think it's manually sorted into the individual postcode walks. If mail gets damaged for any reason (which can happen in machines) then it's put in plastic bags with a note. I agree, usually mail to/from Europe is fairly efficient.

Michael, I talk to the local postman did I say there was anything the matter with them also the Delivery drivers for the post office.  But I'm talking about, post going abroad, when they haven't received their Birthday Cards.  I also received a statement that had been opened. That is nothing todo with individual postman, The post is in a post box that then goes to the sorting office, which is then sorted into area's where the letters have to go to, that's why postmen have to have a good knowledge of areas, when sorting it all out is the sorting office.

Had a friendly chat with our postman in East Putney today, felt sorry for him in the rain (so it was a brief chat). He's always very helpful.
