The closure of EE.

EE Putney High street closed recently and another phone shop and vape shop has opened in it's place.

That does not surprise me in the slightest.  That is why Putney High Street is in the sad state it is.On a totally unrelated location, I agree.  We had our chimney swept by the firm who installed our log fire 2 years ago.  Their shop was opened by father and son 28 years ago in Ripley.  They had to leave the shop recently as their landlord increased their rent by 100%.  Talk about day light robbery!

I seem to recall the last time I went into an O2 shop, the phones on display were dummy units, and they had to unlock the real units to sell one. Ordering upgrades over the phone is ok, but if you need an immediate replacement for a broken phone it's nice to be able to go into a shop and walk out with replacement :-)

And many of these high street shops seem to have to keep their doors locked nowadays as there is a lot of thieving being carried out by local youths stealing to order to supply criminal gangs. It seems the big glass showroom frontages with their invitation to come in and see and try the wares on offer have just become too great a temptation for some.

I was in the EE shop in Wandsworth recently, they told me the rent for the Putney shop was more than for the Wandworth & Clapham Junction EE shops

EE merged with BT, Vodafone merged with Three.

EE has merged with Vodafone hence no need for 2 shops on high street.

Phone shops are another important physical link gradually closing on high streets, like the banks. The majority of people seem to be happy with communicating over a phone line, or digitally, rather than face to face. I believe that it is more of a problem for the older person. For me, anyway.
