Putney Squatters

Recent problems with squatters in the closed Simmons bar, Ramna restaurant and the old Lost Society bar some of who then set up tents in Olivette Street raise questions for everyone. There must be great sympathy for the owners of these properties as well as for Putney residents who live near the squatters. However, what drives this phenomenon at the present time and what can be done to avoid another similar a crisis in Putney other than boarding up vulnerable properties? In any case, did the squatters who invaded these buildings give particular reasons for their occupation?

A single room in a shared property in Putney is £700 upwards per month I believe. With studio and some larger rooms going for £1,300+.Obviously studios will normally incur utilities and council tax.To rent privately they will need references, deposits and a good credit score as well as documented income.I surprised that more people are not squatting?I'm not excusing them but just illustrating that social housing is scarce and private housing, ignoring the cost is not available to many.

Think they were causing a disturbance in Olivetti Street, upsetting the neighbours.
