Putney Forum

Is it not possible to put something on here about Putney, as all the posts are on the TV and they go on and on and are really depressing. We have traffic jams in putney which are a real problem. This needs sorting soon or perhaps residents should withhold their Council Tax till it's sorted. Also all the banners are not getting Hammersmith Bridge open, Putney is the one who is suffering because of this. Yet they are on about doubling our Council Tax next year. There are so many mamby pamby councilor's getting paid for doing nothing or don't even live in Putney and don't see what is going on. Don't see don't care.

Don't worry Barbara.  I'm still winning.  And I don't stay or work in just one place which is what you seem to do.You can usually find each Councillor's interests and portfolio on the Council website.  Sometimes  I've found it better to write  to whoever has the same interest rather than  whoever is my ward Councillor.  The Mayor's question time is good too.  I've found the list of questions interesting.  There is strength in numbers on a subject .

MPs never seem to be able to win.  If they are photographed walking with banners and in solidarity with Grenfell survivors and opening events they also tend to be criticised for spending their time in photoshoots - when at least that means that they are taking an interest in their constituents. You can find out what they have been doing in Parliament in Hansard.With Councillors it is not so easy - some are good at replying to emails about concerns but others - not.

There does appear to be a facility for sending a link to people to join a WhatsApp group, but Group admins can set up a group so only they can solicitor or approve new members. Not something I've tried recently!Not sure I'd publish such a link on an open forum!

I think people have to be added to WhatsApp Groups by a group administrator and have to already be a WhatsApp subscriber? There might be variances to that depending on group and individual subscriber's security settings.

There is a problem regarding lack of visibility and our Councillors.  At any rate they are not often seen amongst us. Are any of them ever seen investigating conditions on our High Street for themselves or perhaps talking to people in Putney? Do they attend local events? How active are they? At the time of writing I am awaiting a reply from Ethan Brooks about the Oxogen Tree as he was a keen advocate of this extraordinary erection in our midst which is supposed to give out oxogen, although it now looks very tatty and has been leaking water for some time...

There is a VERY active Putney whatsapp group, with some 380 people signed up. Masses about cycles, traffic, other issues, and they're working on getting a group together. Not sure how to link it from here

Philippa, we have been going there for 35 yrs, so don't tell me about Brixham. There hasn't been a train station in Brixham since 1963.  So caught you out at last, so you better have a little sleep and stop answering my posts.

No bikes and e-bikes in Devon?  Not true - and a lot of those there are for hire and someone from the companies will meet you at the station with your ride.  It's just that it is very different from London with a lot more space once you are out of the town centres - and Devon is rather hilly and a lot of the roads very narrow.  Isn't it something like FIVE bikes that will fit into one car parking space?  So there wouldn't be such a long queue of cars if there were more bikes, and the air would be cleaner!

Brixham is a hilly town with steep slopes - not ideal for ordinary cycling. I was there last year and observed a light motorcycle performing repetitive silly-ass type tricks along the waterfront, until, inevitably, he nearly went through the front of a pub and also terrified pedestrians. Inevitably, the police were there too late.Also an outrageously noisy machine.

Just get on your bike, because you couldn't careless about other residents. There were no bikes in Brixham what a pleasure to not see any.

Thank you Robert, our road is dreadful at times, also the other roads including Werter, as they can't even get into the High Street because of all the High Street traffic.

PHS is currently grid locked and your road Barbara was backed up to the top this morning.  Bus change overs need sorting and lorries loading and unloading need enforcing.  Goodness knows what it is all doing to the pollution levels.  I laughed out loud when someone suggested that traffic evaporated (I don’t think so).
