House Fire - Chelverton Rd

According to the London Fire Brigade, 6 fire engines and around 40 fire fighters have been called to a fire in Chelverton Rd.  The 1st and 2nd floors of a 3 storey mid terraced house are alight.  The fire started at 3.00 pm approx.

Victoria, there were loads of firemen and engines. Loads of people dialed 999. We had  fire engine outside all night till the scaffolders turned up in the morning. The family are being looked after.

GOodness me! We could smell and see the smoke, but until we  saw the very dramatic photos on street whatsapp groups we weren't sure where it was. We were going to have a quick walk to see if it was something that hadn't been reported!! . As long as all safe, that's the main thing. I wonder what started it? I'm sure we'll all rally round when we know what we can do to help. They must have lost absolutely everything, Puts things into perspective.

Chelverton still shut off to traffic and scaffolding is going up.

Fire engine still there this morning, no vehicles can drive in the road as tape going from one side of the road to the other. 7 this morning a fireman sitting in the front of the vehicle, don't know if he has been there all night.

I read online a man was taken to hospital and is recovering from smoke inhalation.  Firefighters fought the blaze for three and a half hours, finally getting it under control at 6.45 pm.

It was a bit of  shock, I do know the man and his family, I won't put his name down. He has gone to a house across the road who are helping him.  I took some bottles of water for the firemen it was baking out the front, also other resident were giving them drinks.

Hi Martine, the man was across the road out the front. All the neighbours outside. Bit worried about the houses each side if this has caused them a problem. They stopped residents coming back into the road.

Hi Barbara, I thought of you and hoped you were safe.  What a shock for you. I think the firefighters are just starting to pack up from what I can see.  Someone showed me a photo of the blaze and it was pretty fierce. I do hope no one was hurt.

Martine, it was a couple of doors from me. I was in the garden, I thought I was seeing things smoke was coming out of the middle floor window at the back, I range the Fire Brigade, the lady said your not the only one who has phoned. I ran out the front and loads of people all ready out the front. Orange flames coming out the middle floor window, which then went into the roof. They had a cherry picker and smashed the roof and all flames and smoke came out. It was dreadful. Also don't know how it has affected the houses each side.
