We were just in Prince of Wales pub near East Putney and apparently someone has died in a hit and run near the Little Waitrose. Loads of police and URR cordoned off. Has anyone else heard about this?

And the one a bit further west on URR by the junction with Parkfields. Just not enough time to cross safely no matter how fast I walk

Yet other crossings you wait for ages for the lights to change (the one near Dryers Lane URR) with many giving up only for it to change when there is no one there. The crossings on PHS are particularly bad. I'm amazed that there are not more accidents as vehicles wait for a space to appear before proceeding and pedestrians mistake this as OK to cross. But just before the lights turn red to traffic a space appears, and traffic accelerates quickly to take it.(Incidentally creating more pollution than if there was a steady but slow flow!) What sadist is in charge of the crossing fiasco?

The crossing at the Sainsbury's Local next to Pets at Home on URRd has to be the worst in Putney. I'm always amazed that I manage to cross safely in the time allowed.

Agree, lots of pedestrians need a little more time to cross - but traffic is always the priority.

There's several crossings where, no matter how fast I walk I only just make it to the other side. The seconds are alwaays counting down. Perhaps they should be re-set to give pedestrians a little more time to get across.

Now on front page of Putney Forum, a lady in her 70's.

I totally agree about a split crossing. Such a tragedy. That crossing never allows me time to cross, even if I step out the second the lights change and walk as fast as I can. The lights always change before I reach the other side - I have just been very fortunate that the lead driver on whichever side is my goal has aways been careful and courteous. (Not saying anything against the driver in this case - green light says GO and lots of people assume they can. It's the crossing at fault.)
According to Putney.NewsA fatal collision brought Upper Richmond Road to a standstill this evening after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a truck while using a pedestrian crossing. The incident occurred at approximately 5.30pm at the junction of Upper Richmond Road and Carlton Drive, just metres from East Putney Underground station.

I agree, Adam.

I'm not suggesting this had anything to do with the tragic incident but I have often thought the crossing outside Waitrose should be a split crossing. The road is very wide with little time to cross before the lights start to change.

Jules, my daughter said she walked by at about 5.40 pm today and she could see a body on the road, in the distance. There was a small group of young women crying. The police were on the scene but an ambulance hadn’t arrived. Awful.
