I hadn’t realised until we watched the programme “One Foot in the Past” that Coventry had been a great medieval city. Coventry was bombed to destroy its many industries. On 14 November 1940, the Germans carried out a criss cross air raid on the city. In the programme, one of the survivors said they they thought the bombing had finished, but the German bombers came back again and again. When it was finally over, Coventry lost 3/4 of its factories and 4330 houses. Another survivor said, we couldn’t believe it, not the Cathedral.
