I've seen carpet cleaning machines available to hire in Dry Cleaners' and Morrison's supermarkets in the past.

I too was looking for a carpet cleaner but they don't exist anymore except for specialist Persian rug type stuff . With the advent of home appliances people just do their own and borrow their neighbors.
