Hypothetical Question Re: WW3

Unless Putin dies suddenly, either from illness or by nuke strike on the Kremlin, WW3 is becoming a frightening possibility.  If it became reality who do you think would be our best ally, Trump or the proposed EU army?  Which one would you choose?With TDS rampant on this forum I think I can probably guess the answer.

I agree with you, Lucille and Jane,He is very interested in the Royal Family indeed as well as in his golf course in Scotland.Other than that, he has no regard for the UK.  He is only interested in himself and his "matey" Putin.....

@ AndyOkay so let's put China into the mix and decide from there.  Would you choose America and its allies or an EU army?  If the latter is going to be a realty, they need to get a wiggle on.Is Macron, the wee wannabe Bonaparte, putting himself in the frame to sort it out?

I think many Brits & Europeans are living in fantasyland.The Starmer collection of the willings proved that.The UK & Europe have not invested in defense nor energy and have outsourced their manufacturing abroad.Even if Biden had won the US would in a couple of years become the next USSR as Bidenomics had accelerated the speed of US decline.If the UK was fallen behind the US in terms of living standards over the last few decades, how far will it fall behind now it has to spend more on defense?

I agree that NATO seems to be fatally undermined by Trump’s indifference to the concerns of his allies and his evident bromance with Putin. I don’t think it is a symptom of TDS to suggest that Trump and Putin share certain traits, the most obvious one being bigoted nationalism. It is perhaps going too far to say that they are two sides of the same coin. Trump, as far as I am aware, does not have his political opponents killed. The two systems are also different. Putin is an elected dictator while America remains a democracy. I would hope that Congress, embarrassed to see America for the first time in its history taking the side of a brutal dictatorship against a democratic country, would seek to restrain Trump.

SueYou seem to be forgetting China in this. If Putin takes on Europe I dont think China will be far behind in its imperialistic aims in the Pacific that will force USA's hand.For 1940 swap Japan for China.

I agree, Lucille. We have to accept that the world order has changed beyond recognition. Trump and Putin are allies and, as Steven pointed out on another thread, Trump, beyond a sentimental attachment to the royal family, isn’t really bothered about Britain.
