ANOTHER SCAM
After breakfast but still feeling weary I this morning received a call purporting to be from Barclaycard. It was easily the most sophisticated try-on I've ever received. He told me my card had been used twice for a total of just under £1000. He wanted my details. Had it not been for the accent (south Asian, but well-spoken) I could have fallen for it. I asked him to identify himself and he three times swore blind that the call was genuine and that my account was at risk. I decided to play my hunch and hung up. I called Barclacard and after the usual button-pushing rigmarole spoke to a very nice woman. Sure enough it was a scam. She confirmed that such calls are piling in, and that like the one I received, they come very close to sounding authentic. Elderly people are the main targets.
