I wish I'd taken a photo of the fluorescent sign on the new theatre Soho Place now.I found it quite emotional to see the representative of a country I've lived in standing up and fighting for her country.  A country which used to have a British Governor and which most British people probably can't even find on a map - let alone pronounce its name correctly.That said I really enjoyed the play.Futurebuild exhibition was on yesterday at the Excel and its the last day today.  Info and seminars on low carbon building products and retrofitting buildings as we move towards reduced energy and net zero.

I wasn't at the Library meeting as I had a prior engagement. However, I was told that at one time it was stated about solar panels:"If broken or no longer working the panels
can't be sent to landfill or chucked away because of the toxic chemicals they contain. So they're stored like nuclear waste and that's a big problem too. Something like 250 000 metric tonnes of solar panel waste, expected to multiply by 312 by 2050."And it was also noted that the presentation had been checked by "experts".Apparently, experts who have never heard of recycling!https://www.greenmatch.co.uk/blog/2017/10/the-opportunities-of-solar-panel-recyclingUnfortunately, such a glaring item of misinformation would make ine question the veracity of the presentation?But as I say, i wasn't there amnd there seems little feedback.

the Futurebuild (formerly Ecobuild) exhibition is on at the beginning of March at the Excel.  You will find lots of Youtube videos from previous years' exhibitions which will show you all the steps that are being taken and changes that are being made and all the people who have taken part and given talks showing the changes they are making towards a cleaner greener lower energy world. https://www.futurebuild.co.uk/

"Bologna to Ferrara"Again not in the UK and Italy is a net exporter of food.Food that the UK doesn't grow such as  vegetables it has to import which isn't green or good for our trade balance.Plenty of brown field sights and roofs in cities especially government buildings etc. for solar.

All I can say is that travelling to/from Bologna to Ferrara in October '24 there were some fields of crops with solar panels in them. (Wasn't quick enough to photo them!) If you think about it the solar panels can probably be reorientated to enable harvesting, or are you of the British Farage mentality that would image several Italians standing around by tractor scratching their heads wondering what to do? Obviously,  from a vegan perspective animals shouldn't be there (apart from a few fields mice, etc) so that's no problem!

Are you suggesting that is the case for the recent solar farms on agricultural land Michael X2?Any evidence that this is being followed?Lots of things are possible but unless it's enforced it won't happen.Also it's very unlikely to get machinery under there to harvest the crops.To me it looks like they are making a quick short term killing under the current energy price structure. Which is what you would expect businesses to do.

These day, of course, one can clad buildings in photovoltaic "smart glass". Kyoto - We're already booked - it's the Royal Shakespeare Company and it has brilliant reviews.Today I was just reading an old New Scientist about how the UK has been falling behind in its preparation for Net Zero.  The division in the previous government has been pretty disastrous - so many MPs and Think Tanks being funded by Big Oil.BTW solar panels do not have to just cover fields where crops would otherwise be grown.  There are a lot of roofs which could be covered and even if they are on fields animals can graze beneath them.Vegetables can also be grown in tall buildings like this:https://chiswickcalendar.co.uk/vertical-farming-comes-to-chiswick/

Michael B,With regard to breast screening I would advise that you seek a health  professional's advice, keep up the regular examination and do not take David Lammy's biological views as gospel.With prostate cancer being the main concern to males perhaps you should consider a DRE? Just a thought!

Food security is just as important as energy security.Growing our own makes good green sense too.Plenty of brown sites and roofs nearer to where power is needed for solar no need to use agriculture land.Green field sites are obviously cheaper and have a faster return on investment.Oddly enough it's not what the Chinese have done who have had huge improvements (not perfect by far) in both energy and food security.Seems to be very little transparency in this area too to put it politely.

"Sorry, small correction:"Actually it's quite a large correction.I think you could have made your point without the abuse just because someone may hold an opinion different to yours.Check regularly and seek medical advice would seem to be wise as general population female screening starts at 50.Of the few people I've known with breast cancer and they were younger than 50 and one was a male and very fit.Just a statistical oddity but mentioning man boobs may at the very least calm someone down.

Do we have any farms left in SW15?I remember one as a kid but that's long gone.There are still allotments but I'm not sure I would call that farming.solar/wind/renewableQueen Mary's is still using diesel last time I checked.
