Comedies

I hope nobody minds me starting another tv/film thread, but I think we could do with some lightheartedness. I’ve got a few comedies I watch that I really love.  Never watched them when they were broadcast, and only started watching them fairly recently.  
Miranda:  Splits opinion on the Internet, but makes me laugh a lot.  Good British farce. Benidorm:  Title put me off, but I really enjoy it’s carry-on comedy and double-entendre .  Schitts Creek:  Everybody loves it.   The Office USA:  Never thought the British version could be bettered, but the U.S. characters are much more likeable. Any comedy recommendations would be appreciated for when we reach the end of the Office USA.

Agree with Colin from Accounts although don't watch it with elderly relatives! Also agree that US Office is better than UK Office despite loving the latter. As for recommendations I would propose Parks and Recreation

Michael, I don’t think The Office US has dated.  The clip on the Internet is The Wedding Dance about 4 minutes long. I can’t recommend Schitts Creek enough.  Please give the first couple of episodes a go, it gets better as it goes along.  Charming, warm and funny comedy.  I loved it especially David Rose played by Dan Levy. As Colin from Accounts has had 3 recommendations, I am going to watch it.  I have watched a couple of Motherland and the new spinoff about Amanda, but neither are in the same league as Benidorm.

Martine, yes, Python was of its time, partly because it was so different and fitted in with other radical things at the time- and from a personal point of view I'd recently escaped from home in an Essex commuter town back to Uni in London where I felt more at home.I will give the US Office a try. To be honest I don't watch much TV these days, except the new.

Michael, we used to love Monty Python, but not sure it has aged that well. My four recommendations finished being broadcast on tv ages ago, but they get repeated or are on Netflix. re: the American Office, it expands on the lives of the characters.  When I mention the programme to people, Steve Carell who plays the David Brent character, seems to be much liked by everyone.  I never thought it would be better than the British version but it is.  Michael, if you have a moment google The Office US The Wedding and watch the wedding of Jim and Pam (Tim and Dawn in our version).  It makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time.  Maybe it will tempt you to watch.

I liked the UK Office, I'm not sure the characters were supposed to be likeable but were to remind one of some of those annoying people you come across at work?My all time favourite is Monty Python in the early 70s, it was just so different and it filled up the common room in the Hall of Residence at Uni

I erased the Skippy episodes from memory when I found out about his arm.I have to watch Red Dwarf to see if it is still suitable.Who had thought we would all end up on Rimmer World :)

Nick, thanks I will give them a go when we get to the end of The Office US.  I have hardly watched an Australian programme since “Skippy”!, so I am interested to see what an Aussie comedy is like.  We’ve just watched the Australian series “Apple Cider Vinegar on Netflix about the Australian conwoman, Belle Gibson, and would recommend it.
