Does anyone have a recommendation for a someone to repair a dishwasher

Many people don’t take out insurance when they buy an electrical appliance, as they are covered by the warranty. If your appliance breaks down when you are out of warranty and don’t have insurance, then you can have a one off repair or take out a policy with Domestic & General.  The details are clearly stated on their website with costs.

D&G reliable, punctual but not cheap.

HalloI have also used Domestic & General, and their engineers seem to know what they are doing.  If you take out a yearly contract on your machine, if the engineer cannot repair it, they - D & G - will replace the machine free of charge.

Matt, Have a look at the Domestic & General website.  There are 2 choices £150 for a full repair.  I went with the alternative choice Repair & Care for a washer/dryer, this is currently £192.00.  I don’t want to explain the difference it’s on their website.  Nobody pressurised me to renew the Repair & Care policy.  The repair was several years ago and hasn’t gone wrong since. Hope this helps.

Agree with Marc Blanchard.  Also www.ifixit.com has lots of information and www.espares.co.uk has little videos.  Don't forget to turn off the electricity, and water or at least know where the stopcock or valve is!Don't forget that if and when you replace electrical white goods with a new and are having it delivered it is usually easier and cheaper to arrange to have the old one taken away (sometimes for a small fee) by the company delivering the new one.  They should also take away all the packaging.  You will probably have to arrange this at the time that you place the order.

I know I am not answering the question, because I don't have a guy in mind for this. Depending on the symptoms, the age of the appliance, the warranty it goes usually three ways: 1) warranty not expired you know what to do 2)simple fix, fix it yourself or find a guy who agrees to give it a go for a low amount 3)get rid of it, a dishwasher online starts at £250 and you can extend the warranty for a small amount. I ususally go 2) 2) 3)... Fix once fix twice replace

Nowadays there is an awful lot of trouble shooting information to be found online and many spare parts can also be bought online.  If you look up your appliance you may find some help in deciding what the problem with it is.  The internet is also a good place to find a hard copy of the instructions for appliances - many of which have been lost - or were never supplied with newer machines.

No recommendation I can give you as we have had a generally unsatisfactory experience with appliance repair companies. In both cases they called in, did a 5 minute examination and said that the device was unrepairable. The call out fee was nearly half the value of the appliance. In one of these cases we happened to have a plumber in the house shortly afterwards who had a quick look, cleaned out a filter and it worked perfectly since.I know the first thought is to save the machine but buying a new one might be the stress free option.
