South Western is set to be the first rail company to be nationalised

...under Labour in the spring.Just read this in the Telegraph. Is this going to be a good thing or not?

Nationalisation will probably make virtually no difference - why would it? However, incorporating South Western's suburban lines into TfL service would be a game changer for Putney - cheaper fares and better connections would result.

Lynch is retiring as general secretary of the RMT has been reported this month.

Will make no difference.Mick Lynch is in charge.He screwed the Labour Government for a huge pay rise for his members - but still they only work on Sundays if they choose.The management cannot force them.Perhaps Heidi Alexander who has served as Labour's Secretary of State for Transport since November 2024 will have more influence.I doubt it.Keep a National Express Coaches timetable to hand !

As always, it depends. If the service improves and the stations, especially Putney, are better staffed, then great. In Manchester they have just taken full control over the previously privatised bus services. Locals are very happy with the improved services and the fares cap.  Another Labour mayor doing a great job (*ducks*)!!
