WHERE IS JOHN HAWKES??

John created a thread specifically asking questions about climate change, now that myself, Mr Callaway and Mr Ixer have given our replies he seems to have utterly disengaged from the thread?Does anyone know if he is ok!?If you are safe John let us know and please reply to our posts, we are desperate to know you are ok!

AS as I call it when a government blocks someone from attending conferences who has funded AI projects for the greater good and then launches an AI mission.All the time forgetting that AI is an energy intensive industry and the UK has one of the most expensive industrial electricity costs in the world.You really couldn't make it up.China may actually hit it's targets early which has started to worry the West, as alternative energy replaces more expensive energy and giving it a commercial advantage. Cleaner coal power stations have replaced old dirty ones, firing up when alternatives can not meet demand.Nuclear power station are on track to be completed too and probably some new Thorium Molten Salt reactors.Back in the UK - it all looks like a last minute panic instead of a sensible step by step approach.

It is somewhat depressing that anyone who points this out is an evil climate change denier who deliberately wants to harm people.The objective is perfectly reasonable but 🎼🎵🎶"If wishes were horses, beggars would ride". We'll get there in the end so the predictors of apocalyptic events that will result in the extinction of humanity, a collapse of civilization, or the destruction of the planet which have been made since at least the beginning of the Common Era will need to look for another cause.

A troll in the context of a forum like this is someone whose aim is not to express genuinely held opinions but simply to abuse other contributors. I don’t think this is is a fair description of John Hawkes.But to return to the issues, leaving personalities aside, I think everyone agrees that it is not a good idea to send vast quantities of carbon dioxide and other other harmful gases into the atmosphere.  The question for this country is whether the rush to achieve net zero by 2030 given all the attendant problems (e.g. the possibility of power cuts on days when there is no wind) can be justified when the UK is responsible for less than 1% of global emissions.

Steven, normally I'd agree. I think can remember one instance and I think it had to be taken down - that's an event probably best forgotten about- but in this instance, given that a question was directed at several of us I don't think it's that unreasonable?

Free speech also means freedom not to speak and freedom when to speak.Perhaps he washing his hair and waiting for his wind powered water heater to heat the tank.Then again perhaps he has seen that not replying has annoyed some people.Keep calm and don't panic!

I can't remember ever seeing a topic on the Forum dedicated to an individual contributor. I think it is better to discuss issues like global warming without personalizing the debate.

Perhaps, Sue, but I'd say it was impolite to request information on one's personal lifestyle and not acknowledge it. It's been noted he's posted on other threads, including what I  might consider a rude one about my interest in science when I was attempting to make a (true only slightly) amusing comment about one a David A's obtuse comments.It indicates to me a narrow minded attitude in that he wants to cease engagement if some might have sensible responses he finds unacceptable. Problems are solved by having an open mind, whether that's global warming, wars, economic issues or non binary genders ...
