If an inquiry is justified, it would be remiss of Kemi Badenoch not to press for one, regardless of what the previous government did or did not do. If the call for an inquiry is such a bad idea, how come Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner, Rachel Reeves, David Lammy and Wes Streeting all abstained on the vote? And how come Jess Phillips has now indicated that she will reconsider the position of the government’s if victim groups want an inquiry? It seems to me that Labour supporters on this Forum, after months of watching the government make one mistake after another - giving inflationary pay awards to public sector workers, withdrawing winter fuel allowance, disrupting the education of children in private schools, destroying family farms, abandoning the WASPI women and now crashing the economy through a foolish budget - are happy to divert the discussion to Kemi Badenoch’s supposed hypocrisy.
