Water, water everywhere

Everywhere you go there are holes in the ground with water gushing out of them.  And now I see great tankers bringing drinking water to Putney residents because the below ground delivery option is clearly no longer fit for purpose.  It’s all very sad.

Basements ( the newer ones last 30 year builds) should not be subject to flooding if they have the appropriate valves and tanking and more importantly have been approved by building control. Those that pre date this should not be converted for living until the appropriate measures are installed.

If you know anybody who is vulnerable please make sure that they are registered so that they are a priority with Thames Water who when the water is off can make sure that they have bottled water.  There's info on the Thames Water website. There are water bowsers but there are also big sludge gulpers which suck out sludge from drains which are also heavy.  Basements and cellars which are nowadays so often converted to living space now we have such a shortage of housing are particularly vulnerable to flooding.

That’s an important point as the lorry involved in the collision with the cyclist in Lytton Grove is reported to have been a water tanker and the report refers to its weight.
