Putney Bridge RoadWorks Cont'd

As I witnessed yet another near accident last night at Putney Bridge due to the chaos which the roadworks continue to cause I reflected upon the naivety of Wandsworth Council in thinking that such complicated renovations would not result in major disruption given that Hammersmith Bridge remains closed and that all the major routes in and out of Putney would be affected by the work. A most extraordinary thing is the odd synchronicity of the traffic lights which may surprise unwary pedestrians who attempt to cross the road as well as helping to cause queues in all directions. Residents and visitors to Putney either in a vehicle or on foot please take care when encountering the mess by St Mary's!

I am not of the "see how it pans out school'! Continued grid locked roads coupled with continued failures on the Wimbledon Line over the last two weeks which has meant that getting to and from Putney Bridge is torture does not inspire faith in the local transport system. I urge residents and indeed all those affected to write as I have done to to our MP Fleur Anderson and complain.

Probably a young person who doesn't even live in Putney trying to make a name for themselves. Hope nobody needs an Ambulance urgent or  Fire engine. Do cyclists remove themselves from the cycle lane, for emergency vehicles more important than them.

How could any sensible, logical, rational person think reducing the road space (having only 2 lanes when there could be three) would make anything better? What was the necessity for this to begin with? Why would we create more traffic, more pollution, more stress and further pollute an already polluted area?!  I just do not understand how these people make their decisions. It’s awful - Putney Bridge/putney generally is never not gridlocked during the day, it’s genuinely a shock to me when I can get across the bridge/high st in 10 minutes

Well our road is jammed every morning, Oh we will just see how it pans out. Sorry my son or daughter couldn't go to school today we couldn't get out of our road.

Nick, isn't suggesting, as you do, that "even when the works themselves are finished Putney will be in almost permanent traffic log jam" rather jumping the gun? At least give them a chance to see how it pans out in practice.

I drove over the bridge a couple of times in the last month and and am amazed at the stupidity of what's been designed at the putney bridge / lower richmond road / putney high street / putney bridge road junctions.  Even when the works themselves are finished Putney will be in almost permanent traffic log jam.  Every last bit of flex in the road layout has been designed out (eg two lanes on PBR becoming one on PHS).
