How far can an electric car go on one charge?

Testing out some electric cars to see how far they will go and whether it is as far as the manufacturer claims:https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/electric-car-range-test-how-far-can-they-go?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtP4FQckU40How far do you drive?  Most people don't drive very long distances for every journey or long journeys that often.  They make comfort stops and food stops and to stretch their legs or change driver.  Don't Drive Tired!I think one of them claims it can go over 400

Unlike the US & EU the UK EV production such as London's black cab are made by Chinese companies or in the case of buses  in partnership with the Chinese companies. I guess we should scrap many of the TFL EV buses just in case?Most EVs including Tesla models are also using Chinese batteries. Do we scrap those too?No doubt some will be happy to promote US/EU protectionism whilst closing production and investment in the UK.Let's not forget the deal the last Labour government did with Germany, to flood the UK with dirty diesels knowing the health risks, so that German auto industry could be protected.The same Labour party that retrospectively penalized those car owners through regression taxation such as the ULEZ.The last Labour government continuing the Thatcherite policy of deindustrializing the UK that has led to China's dominance.Do you not think that the reverse case can not be made about Western technology?The last thing Western manufacturers need now is to lose even more overseas markets especially following recent events where Western technology was used as a weapon.I do wonder where some people have been during the last few decades. They may have not have noticed that Western supply chains are heavily dependent upon China and even a gradual move away will lead to a huge increase in inflation. Imagine what a trade war would do?Oddly enough EU car manufacturers are against the tariffs.Right hand drive EVs  can be sold in Thailand, Singapore, Maylasia and Australia but let's stick to good old diesel so Labour can tax us more I guess!

I frequently see electric motorcycles driving on the pavements, ICE ones too of course.Two wheel transport violations have been effectively decriminalized in London for a number of years.No surprise that accident rates are up.Less than 16% of TFL buses are electric.If miles travelled was taken in to consideration the percentage would be a lot smaller.I'm not sure there are lots of people rushing out to buy a £50k Peugeot. I think you find sales volumes are quite low.

It's the transport that's needed for all those who can see a bigger picture and who may not be rushing to buy or lease an electric car (which won't be able/allowed to drive or park absolutely everywhere anyway).

There aren't cycle lanes along every single road and as you should well know it isn't actually more dangerous to walk than travel by car.  Lazy selfish motorists who park by driving over kerbs and pavements cause expensive and extensive damage to people and property.

Oh Dear Philippa, how can we drive on the pavements with the cycle lanes in the way.  Also tell everybody not to cycle on the pavement as dangerous for the pedestrian. Also tell them not to drive through traffic lights as dangerous for pedestrians. Obviously then it's safer to drive.

You can see why good clean and accessible public transport is important!  There is no point everybody getting a car and then sitting in traffic being the traffic by clogging up the roads. Please don't drive over the pavements and damage them making them dangerous for pedestrians!

I don't think the batteries are relevant to the exploding devices - other than some power source would be needed to activate the receiving mechanism and detonator.  It seems from reports so far that at some time either during manufacturing or distribution someone inserted a small amount of explosive and detonation mechanism. I'm sure the pager I had a few decades ago when I was doing IT support and (if I remember correctly) had a couple of triple A batteries in it could have be doctored in a similar manner.

Those pagers were quite obviously deliberately targeted.  Otherwise we would have had far more things go bang - eg all those cordless drills and screwdrivers and vacuum cleaners just for a start.

Barbara  Batteries are getting better all the time and there are also cars being tested that are running on hydrogen.  Time does not stand still.

The Merc mentioned is £100K+ (more than 3 times the average UK salary).I'm not sure they are made in Germany even - perhaps assembled.A 3 year warranty seems a bit mean.Would you buy one Philippa?

144 under test conditions is about 120 normal conditions with traffic jams etc. Thats 3 stops to recharge on route to Newcastle and hope the charging points are both fast and vacant.Top of the range BMW probably out of the financial range of many people Phillipa .But maybe your high horse does more to the gallon.

Barbara    It depends on the car.  Batteries are improving all  the time.  There is a big difference between them.

The distance depends on the model.Distances that basic models can do this year are still well short of 400 miles.Of course if you are talking about high end EV's that's different, but they come with a high end price that is way out of budget for those considering a new or second hand vehicle.

My point was that there should no longer be range anxiety since they can now travel so far on one charge.  Anyway there are comfort stops, food stops and leg stretching stops and driver changeover stops to take into account.  Don't drive tired!  Plan your trip well knowing where you can top up and top up early just in case.

18 months out of date which is a long time in the electric car industry.All eyes are currently on tariffs but the two interesting cars are BYD Seagull & the Dacia Spring.200 mile range for a £15K new car would be fine for a lot of people especially when you factor in them the second hand market price.Disappointing that the UK did not specify a low powered ultra light EV for cities.Another Brexit benefit not realised.https://www.electrifying.com/blog/article/everything-we-know-about-the-byd-seagull-will-this-be-the-uk-s-cheapest-ev#:~:text=Is%20the%20BYD%20Seagull%20coming,launch%20in%20China%20last%20year.
