I think it is really sad that the people who have already made there home here and are part of our community should now feel unsafe. This is really disgusting a lot of people have lived here years, run shops or are our friends.  But I do think they should put a stop to all these young men on the boats coming here and being given a roof over their heads, when a lot of our own people are struggling. The Government want to take more money from the old because they don't know who else to take it from.  All the 40 and 50 yr old's who have a job better make sure they have plenty to live off when they retire. Because it can only get worse. I've just signed a petition that is going around for the old people who are having their winter fuel allowance taken away.  I have a friend who still works and shouldn't some older people work perhaps because they don't like being on their own. But when your taxed they take more because you have a pension as well. So you can't win. I worked an extra 2 yrs and they took nearly half my wage when I decided to continue working shorter hours, then took my pension.

Might be something to do with the name of the bridge. And yes the borough boundary runs down the middle of the river hence cutting the bridge centrally. Southside of thd bridge Putney, north side Fulham.

Andy, part of Barnes comes under Putney. Lennox Estate, comes under Wandsworth. You can only tell by your Council Tax.

Once again sadly, I think you forumites are missing the point, and getting off the point too. Question: would you all risk your lives, and savings, crossing the Sahara desert, risking wartorn countries such as Libya, Mediterranean or English Channel drowning, to escape persecution, war, famine, poverty???  If you were a woman in Afghanistan would you flee if you could possibly escape???  Would any of you???  Yes you would if you were them!Refugees risking their lives are coming to the UK because they have heard the UK is a welcoming country, and because they often speak some English. They don't know too much about the NHS, social care, or any of that - they just want safety.  Did you complain so much about Ukrainian refugees I wonder??Think before you start to bitch and moan in your ivory towers. Count yourselves very fortunate, and, to quote a famous line - "have you no shame?"

No Tolerance and Perseverance.  I suppose you must know Andy because the lack of editing stops what I wrote from making sense.  However that is a reason that pay increases are not always what they seem and if you are a higher earner you can actually be even better off keeping more of that increase than someone who is a lower earner.  Some people would be far too busy dealing with all the challenges and bureaucracies getting through life to notice - as they won't have been told.

Philippa, your commitment to the environment  is laudable and I share your political outlook but your endless patronising lecturing is clearly counter productive and annoying. You are also  rather coy when asked what job you do/did that qualifies you to hand out so much advice. It’s a pity because many of the points you have made about the climate emergency have been spot on.

The personal tax allowance threshold in the UK has not been has been kept the same ie not raised for many years.  This means when earnings are raised you pay even more tax. It is a stealth tax because it doesn't have to be announced.

Same here.its because you breached the tax allowance threshold. The contributions to the private pension would have been tax free.hence tax deductible when it becomes income.

I don't think that private pensions are as good as they were any more.  Also you could retire much much earlier.  Housing is also very costly in London because of a shortage of it.  That and the general cost of living make it harder to make ends meet.We depend on immigration of young people to do all the jobs those already here don't won't or can't do and to pay taxes.  Many coming in from war-torn countries are already trained workers.  There are lists on the Govt website of the jobs that work visas will be given for.

Well Andy, I'm taxed now on my Private Pension, because they don't know where else to take it from. I've been taxed years they take from it.

Taxation is not age related its income related. If income is above the tax threshold then of course income tax is due.My contributions to my works pension were tax free so it's only right that tax is payable if they combined with my O A pension exceeds the threshold on redemption.
