Another sensible Judge!👏🏻he judge jailed George Simonson, 24, of Leeds, and 26-year-old Theresa Higginson of Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, for two years.Simonsen smiled and waved to the public gallery as he was led to the cells, while Higginson shouted – referring to details heard earlier in the proceedings – that her “vegan diet did not make me ill”.Paul Bell, 24, of Exeter, was jailed for one year and 10 months, and he waved and blew kisses as he was led to the cells.Gaie Delap, 77, of Bristol, and Paul Sousek, 73, of Bude in Cornwall were jailed for one year and eight months.The judge told Delap: “Age, I regret, has not brought wisdom.”Sousek said “thank you very much” after he was jailed, and tried to read from a document before he was bundled towards the cells by a security officer.

Yes John, people forget very quickly when it suites them about other demonstrations. We also matter, lots of money is taken from old people if they have to go in a home, they have to sell their homes and their pensions taken from them. It's all very one sided. Years ago Councilor's want to help people, now they only want to help themselves.  Now Insurance Companies will be putting up their prices for all the damage caused. Racism goes both ways.

"Nobody here is confusing the cause with the action"I would disagree reading some of the posts in this and other threads.The JSO actions have also led to an enormous amount of police time which would be better spent fighting other crime. High crime means less green shared resources - a fact that seems to be lost on those that can afford their own resources.They are also responsible for normalising vandalism and people that turn a blind eye and even encourage such behaviour wonder why such behaviour is on the increase.

This thread is about JSO Richard.Was unaware of Sunderland riots until you mentioned it.As with Southport I.find these riots offensive and an excuse for thuggery and robbery. There is no justification for them in any way whatsoever.

So many sanctimonious comments here on the JSO protestors but I haven't seen many criticisms of the much more serious riots in different parts of the country, supposedly about the Southport attack, but actually involving vicious physical attacks on the police."It is all too easy to call people thugs and racists without addressing the wider concerns of those outside the Westminster bubble as it is an excuse for inaction", complains one of the usual suspects. There may be "wider concerns," but throwing bottles and bricks at police, looting shops and setting cars on fire seem strange ways of expressing that point. A little more condemnation of these brutal riots wouldn't come amiss, instead of sneering comments about easy targets.

Nobody here is confusing the cause with the action. With  a couple of exceptions nobody has denied the climate emergency. The disagreement is over the actions but we are all perfectly capable of distinguishing the two.

When the cause is known and those who should be taking action and looking after the wider people's interest are only looking after their own interests then those whose interests are being ignored have to do more to draw attention to it.

But it draws attention to the fact that there is a problem and makes the news which is exactly what they wanted to do.  They knew the paintings were already protected and would not be damaged.Extinction Rebellion IIRC started off with slogans of 'Tell the Truth' because a lot of work (nothing like enough) has gone on behind the scenes to do with changing the way the grid works and introducing alternative energy yet the majority of the public had no idea that this was happening.  The Think Tanks for and against divesting from fossil fuels have been pulling the parliamentary parties apart with a lot of lobbying going on from pro-fossil fuel trusts and vested interests both here and abroad.  APPGs (All Party Parliamentary Groups) have come under scrutiny (but not enough) because they have been run and funded by funders who have not been declared to Parliament.

Some people only think about themselves and their own convenience or inconvenience and consistently come up with imaginary negative scenarios when there is a climate crisis which is going to get worse unless we work to ensure that mitigation is put in place.The Climate Act was passed into law in the UK in 2008.

Interesting how judges make pronouncements on those found guilty.  JSO protesters probably wouldn't really argue with the verdicts - there's no argument about whatthey did, and I guess the sentences are online with the guidelines set whateverone'sopinions on the rights and wrongs. However,  I  wonder how those self important judges who sentenced and made comments on the sub-postmasters feel now the lies involved in those cases, their ignorance of technology and their inability to think outside of their limited mindset has now been exposed. Should they be rescinding those comments and apologising for their and the legal system's failures?
