Jimi Hendrix on the Bridge Inn, Bristol https://flic.kr/p/2nojR6H
There's a story that Hendrix visited the Bristol in late '66 and was so smitten with the city, and with the local ciders that he wrote a song called 'Thatchers Haze'. After a weekend drinking far too much of the stuff, he swore off alcohol and renamed the song - obviously we now know the tune as 'Purple Haze'. Who knows if that's true! He did visit Bristol: on 9th February 1967 the Jimi Hendrix Experience played at the Locarno Ballroom Bristol (https://www.jimihendrix-lifelines.net/files/bristolpost.pdf); then again on 25th April 1967 the Jimi Hendrix Experience performed two shows at Colston Hall in Bristol as part of the ‘package tour’ alongside The Walker Brothers, Cat Stevens, Engelbert Humperdinck, The Californians, The Quotations, and MC Nick Jones; an interesting mix of musical styles … and there is a review from his 'packge tour' performance at Bath https://www.somersetlive.co.uk/news/history/night-1967-jimi-hendrix-stunned-6560684. It seems he played at Colston Hall again that year on 24th November but this time was the headline act for a package including Pink Floyd, The Move, The Nice and Eire Apparent - a better mix of psychedelic rock music?
