Barnes Hospital

This is for Martine, front page. What they have decided to do with the derelict site.

The Old George was built in the 1600's and demolished in 1963, then the Charlie Butler was built then that has been demolished.

The Brewery, part of it is just a wall, that looks a mess, they did build other houses along there used to be one pub one side and one the other The Napier and opposite the Charlie Butler, if you can find it, the Charlie Butler used to be the old George, it was so small. Probably  on days gone by.  Yes I must know every Pub in Barnes and Mortlake, Ha Ha.

Barbara, I agree something needs to be done with the Brewery site (yes we’ve seen filming going on there).  However I think what they are proposing is too much for the neighbourhood and I’m not sure it will cope with this and the Barnes Hospital development.

I lived Treen Ave, Martine, right by Priest Bridge, the road narrow on both sides. I really only, walked that way if I was meeting friends.  Or going to friends in our lunch break. All ways on the other side, went to Guides. and the Wigan Hall, which had Groups years ago. Also Dentist. I do think the Brewery could do with something done to it, it is a bit of an eyesore. I think they have been filming there. On the hospital side of the railway, there used to be a pub the Spur by the railway Bridge. Also Queens Rd, the pub The Queens Arms. All shut now. I think some new houses have been built on South Worple way, haven't been down there for ages, because you can't get out the other end if you drive.

Thanks, Barbara.  I think it’s all very sad, although they are trying to spin it as a marvellous gain for the community.   When I visited there, I was surprised at this lovely facility for older people.  Yes it probably need modernisation but it was nice.  Still who is bothered about older people with mental health problems?  Nobody, is my opinion. Barbara, as you lived at Priests Bridge, what do you think about all the proposed new development at Barnes Hospital and The Brewery site?  My recollection of Barnes Hospital was of going down, basically, a lane next to the railway track to reach the entrance.  Can it cope with all the increased amount of traffic?  Also there was always traffic waiting at the level crossing. It’s going to be a big change for East Sheen and Mortlake.
