We have had what is called a Waste Hierarchy for it seems forever now - Refuse Reduce Reuse Repair Repurpose before you get to Recycle and Throw Away for Energy from Waste and/or Landfill (for a very few things) and the concentration is now on a Circular Economy to keep as much as possible in use rather than a Take Make & Waste one - because there is no magic 'away' in throw away and the planet does not have infinite resources. That is why what is too often referred to as 'the dump' is called a Reuse & Recycling Centre.  Household Waste (check the Council's definition - it's generally NOT DIY or building materials) is paid for in your Council Tax but Business (trade) waste isn't.It is better to find a taker or a use for what you no longer want.  Using the internet has made it a lot easier to offer second hand items as they can be easily categorised and searched for.  Just look at how E-Bay changed everything and how you can find the odd missing plates to match your dinner set etc instead of buying a new one!  You can easily buy spare parts for things or even another non working one to take a spare part off. I bought a replacement grater blade for my Robot Chef online.  New really is not always better or best!www.trashnothing.com is a website where you can often find or give away things such as odd building materials - a few paving stones, a bag of sand etc but I have seen an amazing number of different things including a pottery wheel, odd tools, bits of material, armchairs, desks and odd plants - absolutely anything you can imagine - or haven't yet!Of course there are other sites including the Neighbournet ones and Nextdoor where there are often goods and services for sale, as well as many other specific ones.
