Sadiq Khan's promises

Let's hope he delivers them.I am putting them in my 'Bring forward for review' folder !Note however some are rather vague and unmeasurable and further note the provisos, especially that of there being a Labour Government.I presume Starmer has also agreed to commit to them ? 1.Work to make universal free school meals permanent for all state primary school children2.Freeze TfL fares until at least 2025 and continue to freeze fares for as long as economic conditions allow3.Build 40,000 new council homes by the end of the decade4.Work with a Labour government to put an extra 1,300 neighbourhood police officers and PCSOs on the streets5.Invest more in youth clubs – creating 250,000 positive opportunities for young Londoners to help steer them away from gangs and crime6.Redouble efforts to reduce violence against women and girls, including investment to stop reoffending and free legal advice for victims of sexual abuse7.End rough sleeping for good by 2030 in partnership with a Labour government8.More support for renters – delivering new affordable ‘rent control homes’ and empowering Londoners to take on landlords through a New Deal for Renters9.Continue world-leading action to tackle air pollution and the climate crisis – from making all buses zero-emission to providing air pollution filters to primary schools10.Deliver a new London Growth Plan, with a target of creating more than 150,000 good jobs by 2028 and increasing living standards for Londoners

Unfortunately the school meals aren't as good as when I was a kid but much better than a few years ago - well they were definitely dreadful under Blair+.Nothing about making transport more accessible (step free. toilets etc) in the manifesto that I can see.It's been a few months since I been to Queen Marys Hospital. Seems odd that nurses etc must have be ULEZ compliant cars but it's perfectly OK to have diesel power generators thumping out fumes in the car park for the last few years. You would think a pro ULEZ MP would be onto that immediately - perhaps it's to get around a Labour PFI restriction??

This is a very negative comment. I would say  that the majority of people who voted for him were non Muslim young people, he appeals to middle class young people as well as other middle class sections. Stop being soo negative towards other races

I agree with children getting free meals if their parents have money problems, or never give their children a decent meal.  Hope the school meals are like we used to have years ago, I doubt it.  But if Sadiq hadn't given parents problems, husbands or wives needing a vehicle for their job, like nurses or doctors. Van drivers. Bills going so high, how does he expect people to cope.

School meals, some London local authorities were already doing this. A good policy although I would not have put it at number one.Freeze fares is also good but it means we are giving people incentives to use the current cheapest fare transport - which may not be the cheapest to run nor the greenest or the best for individuals. This generally means those that can least afford it travelling very slowly on inefficient buses when the tube or overground or even Santander bike and river may be more economical.The 40K homes will be 6-7K a year. It will have little impact on a population of 8-9 million.We do not have a Labour government and may not have one so it is not really a policy to increase the number of police on the streets. I won't repeat my criticism of him when it comes to policing. The safety of citizens should be any government's top priority. Public transport or active travel do not work effectively in a high crime city.

Interesting he now says 40,000 new homes by the end of the decade. Previously it was 50,000 a year and he never got close to that.I wonder where the land is for these 50000 council homes?Putney common? Ashburton estate? Alton estate? Eastwood estate? Etc etc seems any green area will be fair game.

Perhaps he will trip on a pot hole. Perhaps that's why he tells everyone to go slow, so people won't keep claiming off their Insurance.  You had plenty of time to see the hole. 4 more years of him. Heaven help us all.

Now that Khan has been re-elected again, no doubt on the back of the Muslim vote, he can say whatever sounds good because he has another 4 years grace to be proven wrong.
