Putney listed buildings - a glaring exception
I was delighted earlier this week to have a little tour of Doune Lodge at 27 Oxford Road. It is a gem of late Victorian architecture, designed by the Scottish architect John Moyr Smith (1839-1912), some time President of the Glasgow Architectural Association, for his own residence. After his move back to Scotland, the house was occupied for over 90 years by a single family: that of renowned artist and illustrator Harold Jones. The house has not been much altered over the years and preserves many of its original features: wood panelling, stained glass added by Harold Jones, fireplaces, etc. It is being maintained as a beautiful home for the current occupiers, who truly value it. I was very surprised to hear that the house is not listed - particularly as in Putney town there are so few listed buildings. I do hope that note is taken of this omission by the Wandsworth Conservation people. The house deserves a listing.
