According to Andrew Hann of English Heritage, Easter is derived from the pagan goddess Ēostre, who is associated with the coming of spring and the dawn, and her festival is celebrated at the spring equinox. Also, she had bread marked with a cross to celebrate the four seasons. So yet another Christian rip-off!

Thanks, Sue. I can vouch for the M&S Plant Kitchen vegan hot cross buns, I've had a couple this weekend! Pity Putney hasn't an M&S anymore; unfortunately the the one in Richmond seemed to have sold out of the vegan ones on Saturday; obviously very popular!But fortunately we were meeting the friends we were trying to buy them for at Cafe van Gogh for a vegan Sunday lunch so we were able to buy them some there :-)We like to support Cafe van Gogh as besides being vegan it's a not-for-profit, community interest company social enterprise that assists a leading learning disability employment charity to run a programme of on-the-job training for people with additional challenges in life. Worth the trip.

Hello Michael, I hope you are having an enjoyable Easter.🐣Despite whatever opportunistic rubbish that has been written about hot x buns I would think most people are more interested in how they taste and not how they look. Incidentally you don't need to trek into Kennington for a vegan bun fix because M&S are selling them and the reviews are very good and they're on special offer atm.😊

Mr Hawkes, you forgot the hot "tick" buns that was a great stunt by Iceland. (And this year it occurs during Ramadan. )

BRITISH Easter? Just how parochial can you get?  I suggest you take a look at what the Pope has made of this season. He's on Catch-up. At the very least I bet he can spell the word CHristian. Happy Easter anyway, though.

@Mr HawkesMany thanks Mr Hawkes for these timely reminders!😽 To my shame I have to admit that I hadn't considered any of them before I made my post.🙀 Do you think I should now turn off all the lights, close the curtains and hide behind the sofa in case the thought police come a-knocking at my door? Or should I stick to my usual un-pc, anti-woke stance and tell all my usual detractors to p'off if they don't like it? Better not as that wouldn't be a Cristian response on this most important day in the Cristian calendar. Oops I fear I may have just offended again ...😉

And the same to you Ms Hammond.However if the bell rings don't answer the door.Might be the woke police saying -1) Union Flag is offensive to our new immigrant residents.Smacks of imperialism and so a Palestinian flag should have been placed alongside it.2) 'British' might be deemed offensive to above as they were not born in this country and owe their allegiance to their distant homelands.3) Eggs should remind us of the terrible conditions in which chickens are reared.4) Chocolate is terribly unhealthy and encouraging its eating is 'fattist' and affects the mental health of those who, through no fault of their own but because of the marketing techniques of capitalistic multinationals, are addicted to it and are hence obese.5) Chocolate originates in places such as Ghana and is often harvested by children which of course is a consequence of our imperialist and and colonialist past and encouragement of slavery.6) Easter is of course a festival of Christianity, the religion of those of us with white privilege.And of course Cadbury's was founded by an English Quaker.Should you not also have said 'Happy Ramadan' so some might not feel slighted ?One cannot be too careful to avoid hurting the feelings of others.But to cheer myself up I am hoping to receive one with a flake in it !
