Results of Commons Conservators Election Declared
From the front page:Five candidates elected on turnout of just 16% (??????????)."Voting closed on 6 March and the five candidates who were successful were David Brown, Susan Bucknall, Michael Johnston, William Liu and Mauro Mattiuzzo with David McClean losing out.Of the 64,250 eligible voters, 10,265 took part which was a turn out of just 16.0% down from 20.4% at the last election in 2021. 58.7% of votes were cast online, a rise of 4 percentage from last time out.Electors were able to select five of the six candidates standing. Susan Bucknall received the most votes with 7,150 followed by Michael Johnston, who received 6,381. Both of these candidates were sitting trustees standing for re-election.The duly elected Conservators will commence their three-year term of office on Wednesday 3 April 2024."I find it difficult to comprehend that 16% of votes cast can count as a successful election. Some will say that is democracy for you.... Really, what about the remaining 84%????
