Robert, thank you for your post. I so envy you growing up in central London, as I love that part of W1. It’s the streets behind Oxford Street that are so interesting. My favourite neighbourhood, is Fitzrovia W1.
I wish I could say my only visit was to The Marquee was to see The Kinks, Georgie Fame or the Small Faces, but our visit was to see Wang Chung! We did enjoy it, though. Stepping over, Mick Jagger, amazing!
As regards, the cinema, Academy 1,2,3 was 165 Oxford Street at the junction with Poland Street and that’s not where I think the one we visited was. I thought it was closer to The Palladium, Argyll Street. Maybe I am imagining it, it’s nearly 44 years ago.
My husband remembers a cinema for the students and thinks it is in Regent Street.
