To be more accurate, one needs a Smartphone not just a mobile phone. A friend of mine living near West Brompton, had a local power cut and couldn't use the internet or Digital Voice service. Although he had a fully charged up phone it wasn't "smart" so he couldn't search the internet. As it turned out he bumped into a neighbour who did have one and confirmed the power company were aware of the problem.My understanding is BT will only check one has an alternative to Digital Voice if they've been notified one is vulnerable, and there are reports that even then that doesn't always happen.
