COP28

Since it started in 1995 the numbers of delegates going to the world environment conference COP has gone from 5000 to 100000, Result? Climate better of worse? You decide. A false correlation no doubt. Would it have made any difference if our MP Fleur Anderson had reducced her carbon footprint and not gone?

It is a shame so many private jets were used.  How many went by commercial flight?  I can understand that for security reasons many would not want to travel together.

I didn't work that very well! The round trip was made because of the government being in disarray, which detracted from his COP28 negotiations. Oops.

Seems appalling that the climate minister make a round trip of nearly 7,000 miles when he shuld be deep in negotiations for a sensible COP28 statement just because the UK government is in disarray. I think that is exactly why there are people who will have gone to Dubai.  There are so many networking and lobbying just to further their own interests instead of considering others who are living in a much more difficult situation as a result of the recklessly selfish way in which we are living here.Since some of the oil and gas companies have known for years the destruction they were causing and have tried for as long as possible to put off doing anything it is no wonder that we have had the hottest year this year and can expect an even hotter year next year.  Hotter weather brings bigger storms.It isn't only in foreign countries that people are finding their low lying countries becoming uninhabitable as higher tides and larger and more frequent storms swamp their land with salt water making it impossible to grow food and forcing them to move home and in some cases country. There are coastal parts of the UK in trouble. People have always migrated.  They used to migrate by walking here across from the continent before Doggerland disappeared under the sea.

I suspect it hasn't made any difference. But it sounds like industries opposed to any change: those with vested interests in hydrocarbon, meat, dairy, etc are piling in their lobbyists so perhaps those interested in attempting to limit climate change are reacting to that?

What happens to the World happens, what anybody does I don't think will make a lot of difference. People are destroying it by themselves Gaza etc. Killing each other seems to make some happy, why not stop them destroying buildings. Save the World from destruction, not climate change. A UFO will land or a meteorite, people will have wasted all the time trying to safe the planet. Save yourselves and kids from stabbing everything in site. Teach them to enjoy themselves first. Stop going on whether they wear knickers or pants and they might have something the matter with them, let them at least get to an age, they can decide for themself.

To answer you Hugh it would not have made a difference to the outcome if Fleur Anderson had not gone.  It does not need this many career politicians trying to climb the greasy pole and in this day and age we really need local MPs to focus fully on local matters.  Fleur Anderson going was a huge PR mistake.  The optics to the public with all these COPs are political junkets.
