Fleur Anderson COP28 and car theft Putney

Really interested to read how Fleur Anderson had time to attend COP28 while our car was STOLEN  off our driveway !!!!  And also cars stolen the night before in surrounding streets.  Do you not think time would be better spent fighting crime on our doorstep ????

@RichardFleur is our Putney MP and as such l would totally expect her to be on top of law and order and lobby whoever necessary not swanning off to a COP meeting - we have had a Labour Mayor for 7 years - clearly our votes don’t matter.  Fleur should be over all Putney matters and her shadow brief which is Northern Ireland.  A serious politician would be spending time in Belfast, Derry and Dublin not sunning themself in the Gulf.  Or is this too much too ask?

The UK isn't the worst European country for car thefts. Italy is top, the UK comes 7th with the Netherlands, Sweden and France above us ... With all due respect Barbara, this and one or two other posts I have seen seem to be taking Fleur Anderson's attendance at COP28 as an opportunity to try to undermine the local Labour MP as we look towards an election.  What would you expect Fleur Anderson to be doing - walking the streets to try to combat crime herself?  She is an opposition MP from a party which has not been in Government for 13 years - I suspect crime rates might have something to do with the fact that police numbers nationally were cut by 20,000 between 2010 and 2019.  Fleur Anderson is absolutely right to be engaged with major issues of both national and international importance, such as climate change, and good for her for attending to ensure that the people of Putney have a voice!

Someone in Norroy Rd had their car stolen last weekend. They think the suspects were checking out the area a few days before, but they didn't realise until afterwards. The crooks may even have done something clever electronically and tagged their car when the owners were locking it. They reckon it's probably already been shipped overseas.........If it's that easy to ship these cars so quickly, perhaps containers leaving the country should all go through those big xray machines i've seen on those Customs programs..

That's probably one of the most inane things I've ever read on a forum. Why don't you watch your car all night instead of sleeping? Of all the politicians we have in the area I'd say Fleur is the only one who actually cares for people.

Very sad to hear about your car, Barbara. I don't know the model or age of your car but it's a well known fact that the electronic locks on most modern cars are easily hacked. (I think people like security expert Ken Munro and his colleagues from PTP, etc have been featured by the BBC and elsewhere regarding this.) Politicians - who are in government - can put better laws in place to force better design and testing (even Nigel Farage seem to like the EU's GDPR in his battle with NatWest althoughthis is not within scope of the GDPR). Perhaps complain to the car's manufacturers? Of course, if your car was lifted onto a trailer I really do sympathise and can only agree with Ed the government needs ensure there's better police enforcement.

I'm sorry your car was stolen and I'm sure it is inconvenient BUT that is hardly a global problem like the Climate Emergency which affects us all.  We need our Councillors to be aware of what is going on and how we can all best mitigate the problems.

Just to add that you are ten times more likely to be a victim of violent crime in London than you are being in a collision on London's roads.There were 3,974 individuals killed or seriously injured on London roads in 2022.By contrast there was approximately a quarter of a million violent crimes in London.

Probably more so than climate change.Labour have control of Wandsworth and the Major - who has joint control of the police. Not that the policies of the other parties are any different.Ideally the Green party would realise that crime has a high environmental cost and come up with some decent policing policies.Besides theft, vandalism etc the fact that we do not have safe public transport including the last mile home means that many people use cars.
