I wondered if anyone had a map of Public Rights of Way in Putney. I am in particular looking at the Lacy Rd area. Thank you.

Thanks Katrina, I think that’s probably it. Alan, I have wondered if it was a bomb site and need to find my Putney bomb site map. When I get the time, I will have to go to Battersea Library and see what old photos they have on that part of SW15.

Walking along Lacy Road today I noticed the short street beside the Jolly Gardeners pub. It's called Gloag Place or something similar. It seems to lead in to that Crown Estate you were interested in Martine. Perhaps if you wandered in you might find an answer to the Rights of Way question? The old maps show the pathway/lane there as a crooked shape about half way through what is now the council estate.

I had assumed it was WWII bomb development, but there isn't a bomb recorded here: http://bombsight.org/#17/51.46468/-0.21636

Thanks Alan & Katrina. I love a bit of local history. Does anyone know why it was called the Crown Court estate? Was there a Court there?

Yes I just checked the Wandsworth site under Crown Court Lacy Road and an open road area is shown historically but looks like it got filled in with that Crown Court development.Interesting!

The Wandsworth planning map also has a 1930s view which shows a street there. When the current estate was built is seems there was quite a change.https://maps.wandsworth.gov.uk/planning.html
Katrina, that is an interesting post, thank you. I had a look at the footpath map and could see the one you mentioned that goes along Gay Street. Nothing though for Crown Court, so maybe I was given the wrong info. or I just misunderstood?

Would Modder Place maybe fit the bill Martine? Have a look at this site:https://footpathmap.co.uk/map/?zoom=18.0&lng=-0.21893&lat=51.46445

Hi Katrina, thank you for the reply. I know the one you mean and sometimes I use it. I am never sure with that one whether it’s part of Gay Street? No I mean a different location, the little estate on Lacy Rd.
Thank you Martine, I did not know. Now I do!

Could you possibly be thinking of the one that runs through the council estate at the Putney High St end of Felsham Rd? It comes out beside the Bricklayers Arms and we use it regularly on the way back from the pub. I have been told in the past that it is a Right of Way.
Ivonne, behind the Jolly Gardeners Pub, it's only a small Estate and not high. There used to be an Office Licence on a corner of Stratford Grove or Lifford Street, years ago.

There are several groups that are looking at protecting our rights to roam which like all rights were hard fought.Don't lose your way was the campaign to get these ancient paths mapped ahead of government legislation to remove access.I believe the Labour party now supports the government policy. The Ramblers have a link below that will lead to a map which shows some routes that have been recorded as part of the campaign. It's been a while since I looked and there may be other links, I hope this helps.https://dontloseyourway.ramblers.org.uk/ (https://gis-dlyw-ramblers.astuntechnology.com/map/)https://www.righttoroam.org.uk/

Briefly searching online, many local authorities keep maps showing Public Rights of Way, but Wandsworth don’t seem to. Ivonne, Crown Court estate is the small local authority estate on Lacy Rd, in case you didn’t know.

Thank you Martine, but I cannot answer your question."Crown Court Estate"??

I was told ages ago there was one across the Crown Court Estate, but just wondered if this was correct?
Public rights of way on Lacy Rd?????
