Dear forum members allow me to introduce myself, I consider myself a "PUTNEY LAD" my dad was born in Cheverton Road, we lived in Cromford road, but always considered ourselves Putney lads.During the early sixietes we both worked as Postmen at the sorting office (just of the High Street and Felsham road. During that cold winter of about 1964, I was delivering the mail, my chain came of the bike, so I removed my gloves in order to replace my chain, MY HAND actually froze onto the chain, one of my customers noticed my dilemma, and came to my rescue with a jug of hot water, and yes poured it over my hands, the pain hit me, I put on a brave face "and thanked her". The result of that incident started a chain reaction which terminated with me emigrating to Australia in 1966.Many adventures over the years. I married a pineapple growers' daughter. 3 children 5 Grandchildren. Now happily retired on the Sunshine coast. YOUR forum arrives to me on a Saturday morning, now a routine, we have a morning coffee out on our Padio then I spend time with the forum, maybe a trip down memory lane. You keep me in touch with the land of my birth. THANK YOU FORUM COMMUNITY

Sorry, maybe I should make the cricket question clearer.  England or Australia?

Hi Patrick, I remember that very cold, hard winter.  I envy you living in the sunshine. We have lived in Putney for over 40 years now and I have enjoyed it all, every moment.  Our first home was at the Wandsworth end of URR, not far from Cromford Rd.  I think the biggest change in Putney is the area around the tube station.  The garage was demolished and is now a Co-Op, next to the Wandsworth Law Court is a Sainsbury Local and amongst the several new developments in that part of URR, there is also a small Waitrose.  The offices opposite the tube station were demolished and are now luxury flats. Mayfield Girls School became Burntwood School which is located next to Springfield Hospital. The old school buildings on the West Hill site were converted into homes, and there are new buildings which are home to the very successful Ashcroft Academy. We are enjoying a mild Autumn.  Flowers still blooming in the garden.  By the way, who do you follow in cricket?

Patrick, I'm still in Chelverton Rd, for 52 yrs, only from Barnes. It's not changed much the road, apart from the Chinese has gone from the end opposite the Bus garage. Putney has changed especially the shops. Also the office buildings on the Upper Richmond Rd. I remember the Sorting Office in Felsham Rd, Opposite the Coat and badge Pub. Glad your happy where you live.
