The Bank of England's Charter, 1694. The Bank of England Museum https://flic.kr/p/2p3DA5H
The Bank Charter sets out the conditions under which the Bank would operate. It was granted by the joint monarchs William and Mary, whose names are written at the top in an ornate script.
The Charter became official on 27 July 1694 when it was fixed with the Great Seal. This was done at Powis House, Lincoln's Inn Fields, by Sir John Somers, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal.
