In November 2021, in conjunction with a consultation on waste, the government issued a call for evidence on other commonly littered and problematic plastic items to help inform future policy making; the response was that “96% of respondents stated they would support a ban on wet wipes containing plastic.” (https://www.gov.uk/government/calls-for-evidence/commonly-littered-single-use-plastic-items-call-for-evidence/outcome/summary-of-responses-and-government-response).And now what do we get, two years later, but yet another consultation! When will the utterly useless Thérèse Coffey actually get round to actually doing something, instead of endlessly kicking the issue into the long grass - a tactic that is all too wearily familiar.Incidentally, the government had earlier announced, as part of its supposed “25 Year Environment Plan,” that it was committed to “eliminating all avoidable plastic waste by 2042.”2042: that’s over 20 years from when the statement was made!
