> While I understand that the Firefighters and police indicated that the fire at Luton Airport started in a diesel vehicle, I wish I could understand how or why this has happened. The main cause of vehicle fires are electrical/wiring faults. Car batteries can provide huge amounts of current which means sparks, and sparks start fires.A fuel leak (onto a hot engine, or hot brakes) will quickly start a fire, so rotten/split fuel lines or faulty connectors are also common causes.Even adjusting for vehicle numbers; fires are more common in petrol/diesel vehicles than in EVs, it's just a fire in an EV is a more newsworthy event at the moment.
