There is this weird idea being put about that we are so far ahead as a nation that we can relax when what we have done is outsource so much of our industry - and we still have a long way to go.  Perhaps since we import so much unnecessary stuff from countries we complain aren't pulling their weight - we should think again.  How long ago was it that that a well known charity had the slogan "Don't buy xxxx for Christmas.  And do you remember that there were articles in the newspapers about how people actually just threw some presents straight into the bin without even opening them?  Hopefully we are a bit more thoughtful now - and less wasteful.
