Out of control XL Bully Dog outside local primary school yesterday

A friend just told me an XL Bully Dog was out of control outside St Mary’s School yesterday.  It’s reported on the local neighbourhood group (sorry can’t remember what it’s called). Anyone heard any details?

A friend gave me more details yesterday.  The incident took place in Lacy Rd as she was taking her son to Hotham.  It was by the Jolly Gardeners, next to the Crown Court estate.
A girl was unable to control her dog and it attacked another dog and it’s owner.  It was a very unpleasant and upsetting incident for everyone to witness, not just the attack, but the angry exchange of words between the owners. Children were upset and frightened by it all. Those who witnessed the attack thought it was an XL Bully dog, or one of those type of dogs, but I heard from someone else it wasn’t. I have requested more details from WBC using the EIR of the FOI.

The reason for chucking water into the dog's snout is that it will have to let go as it will have difficulty breathing....You are not trying to drown him, just to shock him to let go....

I agree Martine, you must do this and take it by surprise....  Not much of a chance if you are being attacked by, as a bystander, you certainly can!There is no point hitting the dog because, if you do so, it will bite harder!

Thanks Ivonne, but if an XL Bully attacks, it uses its huge weight to get you on the floor before going for your face and neck.. I doubt you have time to grab a bottle of water and take the top off.  I have seen the suggestion of putting your finger up it’s backside, but I don’t think I’ll be trying that one either. I’d like to find out how the attack was ended.  If it’s the dog everyone is saying, then the Council have been warned.

If I may be rather flippant here....I suggest everybody takes a big bottle of water with them when they go out.  If a dog attacks you or somebody close by, just pour the water on the dogs snout - it will surprise them and give you at least 30 seconds in which to hold the dog back...

I’ve been hearing a bit more about what happened: The attack took place on Lacy Rd at 9.00 am when there were lots of children on the way to school.  The owner was unable to control their dog and it attacked another owner and their dog. Witnesses said the huge grey dog looked like an XL Bully. The police are asking for witnesses. People are saying the dog has attacked before.

Since I originally posted, there seems to be some confusion as to the type of dog, but all I can say is that it looks like one, even if it isn’t!
What I heard is that it got away from its owner and went for another dog. Anyone there when the incident happened?  More details please.

This is appalling. I hope no one was hurt. The dog should be removed from its irresponsible owner. The fact that it’s not the dog’s fault is completely irrelevant when it’s obvious that these bully dogs are dangerous.

I contacted the Dog Wardens.  An incident was reported yesterday and the police know about it.
