Extradition requests & Refugees
It seems Ukraine has began issuing extradition request within the EU and possibly the UK, for those eligible for conscription.The question is: Is the UK going to extradite as requested?Poland seems it may.Could we be in a situation where we send male Ukrainians back to Ukraine to fight in a war with a high rate of attrition?Let's not forget that the draft in countries such as the US excluded the middle classes and most modern armies including the UK rely on recruitment from impoverished areas. Do we expect more from Ukraine than we do the UK/USA?With sadly no end in sight for the war in Ukraine we are likely to see more people fleeing with large numbers, are we really willing to accept the six figure numbers similar to that which Germany and Poland has absorbed?The terrible events in Libya, probably aided by a lack of maintenance in infrastructure since the Gaddafi government has added to the weight that it is an unsafe country to return those that are fleeing.We are left in the situation where due to foreign policy we can not return people but we continue to moan when they arrive at our shores.The numbers are huge and the UK has simply not prepared the resources or educated the population as to the scale.The conversation needs to include the true scale of the issues faced today and tomorrow not some ideal period in the past!
