Premium Bonds

I wondered if anyone knew why, on the list of Premium Bond winners, they gave the location of London winners as either Inner London, Outer London, London and Wandsworth.  Why isn’t Wandsworth listed as Inner London and does Wandsworth mean the whole Borough or just SW18?  Is Putney listed under the Wandsworth or Inner London?  Just curious

They say not for old unclaimed ones.  Going forwards with new wins is fine. So the message stays on the website and it is irritating unfinished business!

But you can still do both  just provide bank details and they will sort it.indeed they are reluctant to send out cheques now its either re invest or transfer to bank ac. You can arrange that for old ones too.

Yes, you can fill in a form so that they are automatically reinvested.It is a shame that if you have an outstanding one they won't automatically pay them into a bank account as a grandchild has some and the first win was before the direct reinvestment had been arranged ...  and banks have become scarce and time even more so.You used to be able to phone them up 24 hrs which was very useful!

I've just checked and got £100 for this month on my block purchased 8 or so years ago.Go on the checker Barbara and put your numbers in that will tell you if you gave any unclaimed.I have a handful from the 60s that have never won. The odds are millions to one.

As for premium bonds, I might have won and don't know it. I have had them since they first came out. With Aunts giving as presents. But I've been at the same address for years.

My sons 50 this year, been doing shares years. I don't interfere, I leave him to it.

Are you saying your son gets a 25% return on his investment, Barbara, that’s amazing.  But if it’s so good, is it a safe investment?   You know the saying too good to be true. Anyway good luck to him.

That's good Andy, my son had put a lump sum on.  Now he does American Shares instead. He gets 25%.

It's really simple, if I win I get an email with money in the bank a week or so later.Actually been very lucky the last few years.

Thank you Martine, My son used to have them and used to win nearly every other month, he said also you could either take the money or put onto another Bond.

Thanks for the explanation, Andy.  I wondered what was special about Wandsworth that it seems to be the only inner London Borough that gets mentioned by name in the location of the prize winners. Barbara, Mail Online also publishes a list of winners.

Now it's online they e-mail and pay the money into one's bank account directly. My email seems to have got lost in the ether …

If you know what your Holder's No is it is easy to check online whether you have any winnings outstanding - especially if you have moved house:www.nsandi.com

It will be Wandsworth as a local authorityThey go by the number of bond holders. If there are 100,000 or more in an area theh use that if its less they use the next area up.Ie there must be more than 100,000 holders in Wandsworth whereas say Westminster ( lie population) will have less than 100,000 so it will show as inner London, same principle follows for any other Borough where bondholders are less than 100,000. It's trying to protect peoples anonymity.
