Ticket office closures

I don't know the original source of this but it appeared in my Facebook newsfeed today.

Now it's reported on the GB News website (rather a surprising source) that a whistle blower has said the closures are actually all about cost-cutting. James, yes, you're correct. The website doesn't show zones 6, or othe zone, boundaries. These can be found on ticket machines, but is something that must be added to web site and apps. (Does this fail a fitness for purpose test?)

Slight problem here though, Michael. "Zone 6 boundary" tickets are not available on the SWR website, so far as I know. Solution is to get a ticket from the specific station on the boundary ie Feltham, in the case of a journey towards Reading, or Surbiton in the case of a journey towards Woking."Zone 6 boundary" tickets are available from current ticket offices, or the c2c website, last time I looked.Sometimes the price of a "Zone 6 boundary" ticket is fractionally different to a ticket from the specific boundary station. Although, technically, you're then travelling without a valid ticket outside of the zome 6 so could be liable for a penalty.

Although if one gets on a train and then realises you've forgotten the destination is outside of the London zone system it is useful to be able to buy an extension ticket online before arrival …
