The Met sinks ever deeply into the mire

I'm beginning to think that the Met is really beyond redemption: Adam Provan has been convicted of multiple rapes, including of a fellow police officer, whilst a serving officer, and has been imprisoned for 16 years.But that's not the half of it: the Met missed at least eight opportunities to get rid of Provan, and the judge in his sentencing said to Provan that it was highly troubling that [the female officer’s] colleagues in the Metropolitan Police in 2004 and 2005 were more concerned about looking out for ‘one of their own’ than in taking her seriously and investigating her complaints about you.”How many more examples will be uncovered before real action is taken?

Can't remember Andy, the counter was long. It was about 35 yrs ago. But I walked in one evening and said who's been eating fish and chips, they said nobody, I said you better check your plugs, one of the fridge plugs was burning. Sorry to be boring Andy, but the Manager was married and was having a bit of a journey to get there each day. He had to suddenly take over from the staff and asked as I was sensible to say for a few months till the shop shut down.

The poster calls Greenwood a rapist but bear in mind that the charge of attempted rape was dropped in February because key witnesses withdrew their cooperation. A CPS spokesperson said: "We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review. In this case, a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case.“We have explained our decision to all parties. "..sea change is occurring?"Unfortunately there is still a conflict between local policing and national responsibilities and that will always be the case.The Mayor should be responsible for local policing where budgets, policy and results are transparent. That's not going to happen with no real change in the foreseeable future.Meanwhile crime will go up and green initiatives will struggle. I was reading one account of a cyclist who got his 12th bike stolen. He tried to follow up himself as police had dismissed the possibilities of any further investigation. In is case it was from a station with CCTV but the quality was so low Mr Blobby could have been the suspect and would still not have been identified.No expense spared for new car registration camera's for the ULEZ expansion and even to track down the vandals. Possibly even installing cameras to watch the ULEZ cameras!You just need to follow the money and resources to see what the priorities are.

Ha! That’s funny Barbara! I wonder if he learned his lesson? Of course it is a shame that some taint the reputation of the rest, but I think they ALL need initial training in abuse of power, with emphasis on their role as public servants.

Yes, there are probably so many of them, there not hiding to well what they are up to and getting found out.  Young ladies are not so scared to come forward and disgrace them. I know they tell lies, years ago there used to be an Off Licence near Charlewood Rd, on the Upper, on the other side to the old Police Station. I worked office in the week and did a few evening in the Off Licence. I new he was the police and the older man he was with. He asked for a large bottle of whisky when I rang it up, he was really rude and said I asked for half a bottle. With that he hadn't seen the Manager was bending down under the counter doing something he popped up and said no you didn't Sir. The older policeman as they were going out the door said, why did you do that. So just proves they can be nasty. Obviously have a controlling nature.  Not ALL of them.

The difference being the funds for Manchester United are not from the public purse.  We are hemorrhaging funds into the NHS and other services but woe betide we raise any criticisms.  The chant for all these public services is “lessons will be learnt” but they never are.  Failings are across all health authorities and all police forces.Your Putney Society Exec meeting must be jolly Richard with your curt turn of phase.

Man Utd? Not a fan myself but seems to me they got it right. Contract law would not allow them to sack a man who has not been convicted of any crime by a court of law.Yes the allegation was withdrawn. United have since acted correctly in cancelling his contract and assisting the un convicted youngster in moving on.

"We're not allowed to criticise the NHS," says Andy, whilst criticising the NHS.Rather a daft comment, considering the tsunami of criticism that's being - rightly - heaped on the people who ran the Countess of Chester Hospital.But the wider issue is that the criticism can be levelled at most large institutions in the UK, Manchester United being yet another example.

Exactly the same as the NHS if the Letby case is anything to go by, along with the baby loss cases that seem to be happening in every trust in an ever increasing way.Ah, but we are not allowed to criticise the NHS.
