Thank you, Victoria. OK I get that. But when so many people need homes why a hotel, why not flats?

I think it's far easier to keep a planning application open, than to have it expire, and then have to go through the whole lengthy rigmarole and expense of putting a new one in. That's what I understand from a few other developments where the same thing has happened.

Genuine question: Suppose they do something minimal just to keep the planning app open, what's in it for them? They wouldn't be making any money - Not arguing, just asking.

I expect they'll dig another trench or something trivial, just to keep the planning application live. Like a lot seem to be doing these days. Shouldn't be allowed. You either start the work for real, or you don't, and the application lapses.
Eh? I'm hardly the most prolific contributor here, so I don't know why you're trying this litle swipe.

You’re always ‘on’ aren’t you. You should take a holiday old chap.

"Well after next week they won't be driving to the job, if they had an old car."Well, there's a laugh: the charge will actually work, then, the old cars will be kept off the road by the charge, and you've admitted it yourself.
Well after next week they won't be driving to the job, if they had an old car.

"The UK’s labour shortage"Is there a labour shortage? Or is there a wage and apprenticeship shortage? When did this shortage begin? Which year or even century??It also doesn't do much for productivity which is low due to low labour costs. Who and where are you proposing to get workers from?

We need workers for the construction industry. Why not use them?"Against a backdrop of economic challenge, rising materials and labour costs, new figures from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) reveal that almost 225,000 extra workers will be required to meet UK construction demand by 2027." Don't expect much building work. I assume all they are doing is the dodge whereby they do a tiny amount of work on site to say it has started and therefore the already given planning permission doesn't run out as it usually does after 3 years. I would expect the site to remain vacant for years.

And your point is? I have no problem with migrants who have arrived through the correct and legal channels and who work and pay taxes.I do though have a problem with those who hop on a boat and arrive on the beaches of the south coast. With no legitimate claim to be here. There is a difference Mr Ainsworth.
Andy Pike ● 896d
Many of the construction workers involved in building the new development will be migrants also.

Well Jane for a start 197 illegal boat people you and Richard are so welcoming of.
This older cgi looks better - although it looks like someone has stolen all the traffic lights!https://www.bdonline.co.uk/news/green-light-for-wamms-25m-mixed-use-putney-scheme/5108678.article

In the CGI the High Street is four lanes wide.Possibly out of date of date???
It's huge! I suppose it'll be a building site for quite a few years

Looks like it will take over the old M & S and R.Dyas Building. Wonder if the Boots will go as well. Also there is a lot of space behind those buildings. Car park and loading bay.

And who on earth is going to want to stay in this hotel?
Jane Carter ● 896d
Well, I guess that they can put a plaque up there now."Call for plaque to be placed at site of the Cinderella Dancing Club bombing"http://www.putneysw15.com/default.asp?section=info&page=conhistory003.htm"Thamesfield councillor Mike Ryder now wants this event to be officially commemorated. He was asked about the possibility of a memorial plaque by a local resident, in light of proposals to redevelop that corner of the High Street to erect a hotel and shops and offices.... "
"But large."And hideous!
