I thought questioning how the ULEZ expansion is implemented was  siding with the far right

Superloo due to start in spring 2024. "A game changer" as long as you can cross your legs until then!Number of people impacted still not clear according to BBC fact find. Shockingly underestimated.No one in Inner London / Zone 2 wants to move resources for public transport to the outer parts of London. For good reason I would add, population densities etc.No expansion scheme announced for Santander cycles.Labour still tweeting it will deliver clean as opposed to cleaner air. Never let detail get in the way of a slogan.ULEZ exemption illogical - classical cars - do they just pollute with nostalgia?Scrappage scheme in chaos. Changes too late too little.The biggest issue is having accurate information so we can make informed decisions. However lots of people with cars have never changed them every few years.  They were once considered status symbols but are no longer by many people.  Instead they are considered an expensive liability.It is more important for money to be put into public transport and infrastructure which is an investment that should have happened instead of so much unnecessary austerity.

What is remarkable is that they have convinced many people that anyone driving an old car has made a lifestyle choice to do so.This when you think about it is an remarkable achievement in itself.Well paid people I knew over the years always traded their car in every couple of years. The idea that they would drive an 8+ year old diesel would be unthinkable.Yet here we are due to bogus messaging and dodgy figures, this is now seen as truth amongst the well paid - even though they probably do not know anyone in that situation.

It obviously doesn't bother people who don't drive or don't even have a car.  Bit much when people who do and you want them to pay thousands for another car.  Bit much if you had an old parrot and it annoyed your next door neighbour because it made a noise and you were asked to get rid of it. Nothing really the matter with it, the neighbour also had a parrot, but they didn't have to get rid of theirs. How would that make you feel.?

There are a lot of exemptions and concessions - only an awful lot of people seem to be unable to bother to read the info.  They just complain.

Having listened on the Today programme this morning to the mother whose daughter was recorded as dying from air pollution it seems rather irrelevant whether a few classic cars are exempt or not, or whether they're classic (ok. which they are) or classical cars. I rather agree with the mother that it's time for the government to liaise with the London mayor and - those other administrations who are legally responsible for maintaining air quality - to agree adequate funding for realistic scrappage schemes so that the introduction of low emission zones can be carried out as soon as possible rather than playing political football games.

We’ll if the reasoning is goonough for California it’s good enough for London. There are other exemptions too like for fairground vehicles. And sorry for being pedantic but you should stop calling them classical. It’s classic. Always has been.

If classical cars are used infrequently they would only have to pay occasionally.If a non-compliant car was used infrequently they still have to pay.It would be better to allocate a low number of days of exemption for infrequently used cars - classical or not and not waste scrappage grants on them and put the savings into clean public transport.https://www.topgear.com/car-news/best-ulez-exempt-classicshttps://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/21306521/six-old-cars-costing-less-than-3k/

‘Classic’ cars (fin fact: Mozart was unable to buy a car in his day) are exempt as there are very few of them and are used infrequently. Consider that in California, which has been hot on pollution for decades, the same exemption exists.

According to this article he flipped flopped.Was his ULEZ stance just for the Uxbridge election?I'm sure noone would suggest such a thing!Interesting that there appeared to be a lot of resignations at the local CLP after. The election. Allegations that the party officials wouldn't even break bread (pizza) with their activists. Why are classical cars are exempt?No idea. Likely to pollute more.Figures from a TFL doc show upto 25 June less than £33m has been committed to approved scrappage applications.The doc gives a breakdown by borough and application type.Half of Wandsworth's car applications are not approved. It doesn't give rejection figures so it's unclear if rejected or just not processed.Only a third of applications vans and mini buses for Wandsworth have been approved.I try and find an offial link, assuming there is one. Found it from Googling. It may not officially released.

Interesting that Khan is now 'listening' as his party are raising the issues. Would have been nice if he had listened to those on the outskirts of London who raised the issue long before the bi election defeat.There again he never was a good listener as a local councillor or MP so why change how.

My cousin in Hatch End bought a new car but her son and daughter in law, have got to get a new van and his wife a new car. That's a lot of money when you have 2 young children. Why are classical cars exempt.
